Shungite is a stone from Russia, in Karelia exactly, in the region of Lake Onega called Shunga, near the White Sea. Shungite is a natural and homogeneous mixture of carbon (98%) and silicates. The Shungite would come from a gigantic meteorite which crashed on Earth 1,900 million years ago however according to other information, the shungite would have formed from organisms living at the beginning of the proterozoic eon. Shungite is the only mineral that contains fullerenes. These were recently discovered and are among the scientific sensations of the 20th century. Fullerenes are found in tiny amounts in nature, and are usually formed by lightning.
